COVID Threat Looms: Experts Warn of Rising Cases and Mysterious Symptoms

As COVID-19 cases rise across the United States

United States: The cases linked to COVID-19 have been witnessing an increase across the United States and the experts have been predicting a summer COVID wave. Amid the looming threat of another wave, the experts have warned that it is near to impossible to diagnose a person only on the bases of symptoms.

While addressing the concern, a family physician in Jackson, Alabama and the president of the American Academy of Family Physicians – Dr Steven Furr stated, “Every week, we test someone for Covid who I didn’t think had it who tests positive. Then we have others who I’m pretty sure have Covid who test negative,” according to reports by NBC News.

Furr was further quoted saying, “t’s really hard to separate Covid from any other respiratory illness right now.”

As per certain reports, several doctors, including Furr, have claimed that individuals dealing with COVID have been witnessing a variety of symptoms.

As per the reports by NBC News, the clinical director of the division of infectious diseases at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and a professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School – Dr Paul Sax stated, “Some people have a very classic sore throat, runny nose, cough and low-grade fever. In others, it’s mostly nausea and diarrhea with very minimal respiratory symptoms. It can vary from A to Z and beyond.”

Along with this, the medical director for infection prevention at the Mount Sinai Health System in New York City – Dr. Bernard Camins, has outlined that he has also experienced a similar trend.” While explaining the same, he emphasized that testing is important to check “whether it’s a cold or COVID.”

The official stats by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has revealed that as of mid-June, the COVID-19 infection has spread across 39 states. Along with this, the health experts have mentioned that COVID activities like emergency department visits, deaths as well as hospitalizations have also went up.

COVID is becoming contagious!

Health experts have warned that COVID-19 has been turning into a severe and contagious infection with the passing years. In 2020, fever was a solid consideration for COVID infection, but it is not “really a major sign anymore,” stated Furr.

Furthermore, he mentioned, “Now, there’s no one symptom where you say, ‘Hey, you probably have Covid.’ Without a test, we’re not going to know for sure,” according to reports by NBC News.

While explaining the change and mutations, the experts have claimed that there can’t be a single reason for the change. The common reason explained was exposure to the virus multiple times through vaccination, infection, or both.

Sax mentioned, “That appears to ameliorate the severity of the disease over time. Recurrent infections are typically milder than first-time infections — not always, but usually.”

In addition to this, experts mentioned that the virus also changes itself. The latest subvariants of omicron have recently been responsible for majority of cases. The new variants, named KP.3, KP.2 and LB.1 have been making majority of people sick.

While addressing the concern, an email by CDC read, “LB.1 in particular has the potential to infect some people more easily based on a single deletion in a spike protein. However, there is currently no evidence that LB.1 causes more severe disease,” according to reports by NBC News.
