United States: During the current times when disease outbreaks have become so common, the easiest way suggested by health experts and doctors is vaccination. But it is not that easy sometimes.
According to certain reports, the track record of Africa about vaccination and vaccination camps has been poor, and a few major reasons behind the same is that it is very difficult to reach remote areas of the county and secondly, it is very hard to convince people that it is a great idea to get a jab against the disease. Along with this, another obstacle faced is the high cost of the shot.
It is reported that Africans have been left behind in Global vaccine programs more than once time, according to reports by Bloomberg.

The head of Africa’s main health-advisory body – Jean Kaseya, very bluntly announced the declaration of the fast-spreading mpox outbreak across the continent. This was followed by the announcement of a global alert by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
It is to be noted that the new mutated and contagious strain has reached many untouched countries of Africa, affecting more than a dozen countries of the region. Kaseya has also mentioned that during a milder version of the global outbreak that shook Africa in 2022, most of the countries did not receive appropriate support from the world health agencies.
According to the reports, Africa is the only country where mpox is endemic, and now, it needs approximately USD 4 billion to fight the disease, which is about USD 100 per dose. According to Kaseya, it is very costly, and most of the countries can’t afford this, as reported by Bloomberg.
However, there are still hopes to stop the outbreak. The nations around the globe are coming forward to help Africans. The US and Europe are ready with shots by Bavarian Nordic and claim that the number of doses is enough for the continent’s needs.
However, there are challenges to address.
The coronavirus pandemic highlighted the necessity of having a detailed plan for distributing vaccines. You can’t just send medicines to a country without a formal request.
Donations will be the quickest way to deliver vaccines to the Democratic Republic of Congo, which is larger than Western Europe and is currently facing a surge in a disease that causes lesions and has claimed over 550 lives. Although Congo has called on the international community for help, it hasn’t yet made a formal request or figured out how to get the vaccines to the areas most affected.
While addressing the same, chief executive officer of GAVI – the Global Vaccine Alliance – Sania Nishtar stated, “For several weeks, we have been waiting for an official request from the DRC government, and the United States government is also waiting for an official request,” according to Bloomberg.
The experts have outlined that it’s time to buckle and work smartly, as there are greater chances of another global crisis if it takes a longer time.
