United States: With the increase in the temperature during the summer season, the cases linked to COVID infection have been witnessing an upsurge. Recently, the health authorities of Ohio have outlined that the state has been reporting an increase in COVID-19 numbers.
According to the recent data shared by the Department of Health of Ohio, during week starting on July 4 the state reported as many as 3,153 cases, which were approximately 26 percent more than previous week (between June 28 and July 3), i.e. 2,506 cases. However, the number of cases were approximately 80 percent higher than those reported two weeks ago.
Why are summer/ high temperatures concerning?
The health experts have outlined that with approaching summers, the gathering of people to celebrate seasonal activities will increasing – fuelling the rise of the COVID-19 cases across the nation, to this the experts have referred as “summer surge.”
The surge has been expected to be reported during the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
Cases reported during the months of 2024!
The health experts have outlined that the number of COVID-19 cases has been increasing at a rapid pace during the first ten days of July, i.e., 3,900 cases. In contrast, in the month of May, the state reported more than 3,800 cases, and in June, the number of cases increased to nearly double and reached around 6,472.
State health officials remain optimistic!
An anonymous spokesperson for the Ohio Department of Health mentioned that the rise linked to the cases is “modest” and said, “it is important to note that the weekly numbers of cases, hospitalizations and deaths remain much lower – 80 to 90% lower – than they were at the beginning of the year.”
As per the official data, the state reported approximately 41,000 cases during the month of January 2024.
After reporting such upsurge in the cases, the state health department and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has asked the Ohioans to stay vaccinated with the latest shot.
