United States: A mysterious bacterial disease has spread across America. A similar threat and concern have been raised after the officials reported the bacterial disease among 18 people after drinking unpasteurized milk.
The cases have been detected across Idaho, according to a news release shared by the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare. The cases are linked to a bacterial infection, caused due to campylobacteriosis. As per the official report, 18 people have caught an infection since July 24.
According to health experts, around 17 people contracted the infection after drinking raw milk from Paradise Grove Dairy in Jefferson County. The official release has also mentioned that the milk by Paradise Grove Dairy delivers milk to many stores across southern Idaho.
Eastern Idaho Public Health spokesperson – Brenna Christofferson outlined that six (6) of the 18 cases are reported from eastern Idaho, and the remaining cases are reported across the state.
The release officially stated, “Paradise Grove Dairy voluntarily stopped production on August 2, inspected and repaired equipment, and increased the frequency of milk testing before resuming production on August 12. Anyone who bought raw milk produced by Paradise Grove Dairy from July 19 through August 2 should stop drinking it and discard it immediately.”
However, it is to be noted that Paradise Grove Dairy has continuously reminded consumers to keep the milk cold while taking it home from the store.
The release further mentioned, “People at higher risk of severe illness after consuming raw dairy products include young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems. People in these groups are encouraged to consume pasteurized dairy products.”
The Bacteria and its Symptoms!
According to health experts, the common symptoms experienced by a person infected with campylobacteriosis include diarrhea, stomach cramps, fever, vomiting, and nausea.
While elaborating on the same, the Idaho Health and Welfare mentioned that generally, an individual experiences the symptoms two to five days after exposure, and the symptoms last up to one week. It is to be noted that some people might experience complications that could last longer.
The Health Department has asked the people experiencing similar symptoms after consuming raw milk or milk products from Paradise Grove Dairy must immediately seek medical attention.
The investigation is ongoing and is conducted by the Idaho Division of Public Health in collaboration with Central District Health (CDH), Eastern Idaho Public Health (EIPH), and the Idaho State Department of Agriculture (ISDA).
